York Chamber Music Festval 2021

16 - 18 September

Message from the Artistic Director

I hope you are keeping safe and well. As you know the 2020 festival was reconceived as an online event. The three concerts are still free to view on the website (www.ycmf.co.uk). We had an audience/viewers for the three concerts of well over 1,500. So it was worthwhile reaching out.

Looking forward to this September we are hopeful that we can be ‘live’. Clearly there are still uncertainties about this but I am happy to announce that Angela Hewitt is coming to play a recital and to join the other festival artists for a gala concert. The world famous violinist Anthony Marwood is returning with two other fantastic string players, Pablo Hernan (Violin) and Lilli Maijala (viola) and the wonderful pianist John Paul Ekins will also be with us to make up our team for 2021.

As you might guess Angela Hewitt is bringing an enticing programme for her recital which speaks for itself. I’m sure this will a joyous occasion. In other concerts we are continuing our exploration of Schumann’s unique musical imagination – “…miracle after miracle” as Steven Isserlis said – and our beloved Mozart/Haydn/Mendelssohn. We end the festival with one of the most sunlit chamber music works, Dvorak’s Piano Quintet with Angela Hewitt joining us.

I’m very much looking forward to seeing you at the 2021 York Chamber Music Festival. Tickets are on sale now.
